Expertise: Programming and Delivery

PROGRAMMING

The success of any festival, event or venue will depend on the quality of the programme.  Programming is a specialist activity requiring a careful balance of creativity and practical considerations.  FEI’s areas of expertise include:

  • Commissioning of new work
  • Coproduction and production development
  • Programming of Music, Dance, Theatre, Opera
  • Outdoor events
  • Sports events

FEI’s international experience is extensive, having produced and collaborated with some of the world’s greatest festivals and events. It represents some of the most accomplished programmers and producers working today.

FEI directors have been closely involved with programming festivals and venues like Edinburgh International Festival and Brighton Dome.

Recently we have acted as Classical Music programmer on behalf of Horsecross Arts for the Perth Concert Hall in Scotland, devising a programme of concerts and recitals a year.  The Northern Ireland Tourist Board turned to FEI to act as Interim Cultural Broker to help create their NI2012 programme of major events in the province.

DELIVERY

Behind programming lies a whole raft of detailed planning that must be effectively managed to ensure an event’s success:

  • Contract negotiation and management
  • Tour management
  • Travel and accommodation,
  • Freight, carnets and customs.
  • Work Permits and Visas

Technical production and event management is becoming increasingly complicated and regulated. FEI has access to some of the most experienced production managers in the world to ensure clients deliver a safe and successful event.  Rapidly following on the heels of risk assessment, and health and safety generally, is the issue of Sustainability with the introduction of the new UK standard BS8901. FEI has particular expertise with scheduling, using the Artifax suite of software.

FEI not only created the concept and devised the programme of the new Lammermuir Festival in East Lothian, Scotland but went on to deliver the entire festival on behalf of the Lamp of Lothian Trust.  This involved assembling a expert team to manage the fundraising, press, marketing and logistics of this new ten-day classical music festival.
