
Nigel was Executive Director of The Place, London from 2004 to 2007 and was Arts Programming Director of Sadler’s Wells, London from 1993 to 2000. He is an expert in the performing arts with particular skills in venue and company management, creating artistic programmes and developing organisations.
At The Place he was jointly responsible for 100 staff and a turnover of £6m. Leading on Learning & Access, Artist Development, Communications, Fundraising, Finance & Administration, he oversaw considerable change and development in the organisation. He has also recently been Construction Project Director responsible for the second phase of the venue’s major capital re-development.
At Sadler’s Wells he oversaw the development and implementation of artistic policy, promoting and programming the main theatre as well as its linked performance spaces at the Peacock Theatre and the Lilian Baylis Theatre during its major redevelopment as London’s dance house. He had joint senior management responsibility for strategy and its implementation in all areas as well as managing the Community & Education Programme.

Nigel was Director of Phoenix Arts Centre, Leicester between 1988 and 1993 where he was responsible for the artistic, administrative and financial success of the organisation. He led the Leicester International Dance Festival 1991 and 1993 editions. Prior to this Nigel was Programme and Festival Co-ordinator at the Almeida Theatre, London and his early career was as a theatre director.
As a consultant, his clients have included Arts Council England, the Russell Maliphant Company, Phoenix Dance Theatre and Scottish Ballet.
Nigel has over 20 years experience as a senior executive for major arts organisations His particular experience and interest is in strategy, governance, business planning, change and project management. |
